The Caravela was installed at Praia Vermelha, within the Carioca Landscape Marine Sanctuary, an area of significant ecological importance at the foot of Sugarloaf Mountain.
This was the first fully marine environment to host Infinito Mare’s technology, marking a new chapter in the Caravela’s evolution.
Here, the dynamics of currents, tides, and coastal biodiversity present challenges and opportunities distinct from those found in inland urban waters.
WHY THIS TERRITORY MATTERS
Praia Vermelha is part of the Carioca Landscape Marine Sanctuary, an area established to protect marine ecosystems and strengthen biodiversity conservation
in one of Brazil’s most iconic natural settings.
Working in this territory meant understanding how the Caravela would respond to marine conditions, while expanding the dialogue between regeneration, conservation, and the public use of coastal spaces.
It was here that the Caravela encountered its first marine sanctuary, opening the way for new insights into the relationship between nature, science, and the ocean.

The project was led by Infinito Mare in partnership with Projeto Verde Mar, an organization dedicated to marine ecosystem conservation
and the protection of the Carioca Landscape Marine Sanctuary.
Research and analyses associated with the operation were carried out in collaboration with institutions including USP, PUC-Rio, and Econsulting.
During the Caravela’s time at Praia Vermelha, the site was also featured in a report by Pequenas Empresas & Grandes Negócios,
broadcast during COP30 in Brazil, bringing greater visibility to the project and to nature-based solutions for water regeneration and care.
The knowledge and insights gained from this experience
continue to contribute to the Caravela’s evolution in coastal and marine environments.
WHAT THIS WATER REVEALED
This is where the Caravela met the sea.
For the first time, currents, tides, and coastal biodiversity became part of its operation.
But this territory revealed more than ecological insights.
The day after installation, an act of vandalism disrupted the Caravela’s presence in the area.
The experience revealed that some transformations do not happen only beneath the surface.
They depend on a sense of belonging.
On care.
On shared responsibility.
At the same time, the marine environment began to reveal new forms of life, new dynamics, and new possibilities for the technology.
Praia Vermelha reminded us that conservation is not only about protecting ecosystems.
It is also about cultivating relationships of care between people, territory, and the ocean.

Praia Vermelha marks an important milestone
in Infinito Mare’s journey.
This is where the Caravela met the ocean for the first time.
And where we learned that regenerating our waters also means building a sense of belonging, collective care,
and the capacity to begin again.
The challenges we faced in this territory reinforced
the importance of conservation, community engagement,
and building a culture of care for our waters.
Even after the pilot came to an end, the lessons from Praia Vermelha continue to shape every new operation we undertake.
